Cigar Aficionado gave the Short Story 92 points in a 2021 tasting and rated it medium in strength. Tasters found it opens up once the pointed foot burns off, showing wood, toasted almond and some spice with touches of coffee and caramel, then a finish of vanilla and chocolate. Its other Cigar Aficionado and Cigar Insider scores range from 90 to 92, and halfwheel also gave it 90, noting pepper early and wood later on.
