The Arturo Fuente Anejo Reserva 888 Maduro (Añejo No. 888) is a slim 6 7/8 x 44 figurado with a head that narrows steeply, a near-black Connecticut broadleaf wrapper, and Dominican binder and filler. Like the rest of Fuente’s Añejo line, its wrapper rests in barrels that once held Cognac, though it alone is boxed in 24s.
What It Tastes Like
Cigar Aficionado gave the No. 888 90 points in August 2016 and rated it medium-full. Tasters found bold coffee over an earthy base, eased by wood and faint maple-like sweetness. Halfwheel’s review began with sweet wood that turned toward espresso and dry nuts, finishing with earth and espresso in charge.

About the Añejo Line
Añejo was born of a 1998 storm: Hurricane Georges damaged the curing barns at Chateau de la Fuente and left Carlos Fuente Jr. unsure he could keep making OpusX, so he put a broadleaf wrapper around OpusX filler and binder instead. New stock tends to arrive in two waves each year, near Father’s Day and again before Christmas.

Sources differ. Arturo Fuente lists it at 6 7/8 x 44 and packs it 24 to a box. Cigar Aficionado’s rating says 6 3/4 inches; its 2014 launch story and halfwheel say 6 5/8.
Is the No. 888 a torpedo or a lonsdale?
Neither label fits exactly. Cigar Aficionado calls it a figurado whose pointed head is slimmer than a typical pyramid. Halfwheel says it is roughly lonsdale-sized, but with a pointed cap.
