To establish the best cigars of 2026, every year our staff smokes through hundreds of cigars alongside our regulars at the lounge in Tampa. This fall we narrowed it down to the 10  we’d hand you right now, plus one we’re naming our Cigar Castle Cigar of the Year for 2026.

Cigar Castle Cigar of the Year 2026: Padron 1964 Anniversary Hermoso

Padron launched the 1964 Anniversary Series in 1994 to mark 30 years in business, and it’s still the cigar our regulars measure everything else against. The Hermoso packs the blend into a short 4 x 56. It’s a Nicaraguan puro — Nicaraguan wrapper, binder and filler — and the compact format makes it richer and more concentrated than the longer sizes. Expect cocoa, espresso and earth on a box-pressed smoke that burns clean in about 45 minutes. It earned the top spot because it never disappoints, whether it’s your first Padron or your hundredth.

Best for: a bold, dependable smoke when you only have an hour.

2. Arturo Fuente Opus X Angel’s Share Robusto

Opus X is a Dominican puro, grown and rolled by the Fuente family — the same family that started in West Tampa in 1912, just down the road from our shop. The Angel’s Share is a full-bodied robusto (5 ¼ x 50) with a deep, layered profile of spice, leather and dried fruit. It’s the special-occasion cigar on this list.

3. Oliva Serie V Melanio Toro

An Ecuador Sumatra wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler, in a 6 x 52 toro. Medium-full, smooth and balanced, with notes of cedar, nuts and a touch of sweetness. It’s the cigar we recommend most to smokers moving up from medium blends.

4. Liga Privada H99 Toro

Drew Estate’s Liga Privada line has a cult following, and the H99 is one of its most interesting blends: a Connecticut H99 Corojo wrapper, a Mexican San Andrés binder, and Honduran, Nicaraguan and Pennsylvania filler. Medium-full, rich and creamy, 6 x 52.

5. Arturo Fuente Hemingway Signature Sungrown

The classic Hemingway perfecto (6 x 46) in an Ecuadorian Sun Grown wrapper, with Dominican binder and filler. The Hemingway line launched in 1981, reviving the traditional perfecto shape, and Fuente rests it in cedar-lined rooms before release. Smooth and medium-bodied with cedar and gentle sweetness — the best first step for anyone new to premium cigars.

6. Plasencia Alma Fuerte Robusto

A Nicaraguan puro from one of the country’s oldest tobacco-growing families, in a 5 ¼ x 52 robusto. Medium strength with a lot of complexity — a great pick if you want flavor without a heavy nicotine kick.
