Cigar Coop reviewed the 2022 version of the Emerald in May 2023 and scored it 88. Earth and coffee led early, pepper climbed late, and the reviewer felt the balance slipped in the second half. Strength in that review began mild-medium and ended medium-full, while J.C. Newman lists the blend as full.

About the Black Diamond
At its 2016 debut, Cigar Aficionado reported the binder and filler came from an unused corner of Chateau de la Fuente, the Fuente farm known for OpusX wrapper. In August 2022 the magazine reported that Drew Newman, the fourth-generation owner, had made the blend stronger and redesigned the packaging, saying he was not satisfied with the old version.
