“Satori” is a Japanese Buddhist term for sudden spiritual enlightenment — a fitting name for a cigar Viaje built specifically around Japanese aesthetics and mindfulness, right down to the striking, colorful Buddha figure featured on its band.

Construction & Origin

Viaje first launched Satori in 2010, originally exclusive to retailers attending the industry’s annual trade show. The Karma is the Robusto size in the line (5″ x 52), alongside the larger Nirvana and Zen vitolas. Since 2011, Satori has used a Mexican San Andrés wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler, handcrafted at a dedicated Estelí, Nicaragua factory. True to Viaje’s usual approach, production stays genuinely limited — historically around 150 boxes of 25 per year — and the line has gone quiet for extended stretches between releases, making each comeback a real event for fans of the brand.

Flavor Profile

Medium-full to full-bodied, with an oily, mottled, coffee-bean-dark wrapper and a firm, well-constructed draw. Expect sweet cedar and earth on the pre-light, opening into wood, coffee, and leather with real spice and pepper on the finish. As the smoke develops, cocoa and nutty notes join the mix, building into a bold, complex profile that rewards smoking slowly rather than rushing through it.

Satori Karma has built a genuine cult following, both for the quality of the blend and for how unpredictably Viaje brings it back — sometimes after years of complete absence.
