This one’s got a fun bit of history behind it — it’s actually a cigar getting a second life, a decade after it first showed up.

Back in 2013, Pete Johnson and the Garcia family at My Father Cigars released the original Bon Chasseur as part of Tatuaje’s 10th anniversary celebration. Ten years later, in 2023, they brought it back — but swapped out the original Ecuadorian Habano wrapper for a dark Mexican San Andrés leaf instead, while keeping the same Nicaraguan binder and filler underneath. The “Tuxtla” name comes straight from San Andrés Tuxtla, the actual city in Mexico where most of this wrapper tobacco is grown, so it’s a nod to where the leaf comes from as much as anything.

This is the Robusto in the pairing (there’s also a slightly smaller perfecto called Belle Encre), coming in at 5⅜” x 52. It’s hand-rolled in Nicaragua, and true to its limited-edition status, only 2,500 boxes of 20 were made — once they’re gone, that’s genuinely it.

As for the smoke: it’s medium to full-bodied, with real depth. Expect chocolate and coffee up front, joined by black pepper and spice, settling into oak and just a touch of sweetness by the finish. The San Andrés wrapper gives it a noticeably darker, richer character than the original Habano version had.

If you’re already into Tatuaje or just enjoy tracking down limited runs, this is a genuinely interesting one — not just a re-release for the sake of it, but an actual reinterpretation of a blend people already loved, wearing a different wrapper.
