Description
The Padrón 1964 Anniversary Series Hermoso Maduro is a 4 x 56 box-pressed cigar with a dark maduro wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler. It is the shortest size Padrón lists in this series, and halfwheel reports it is rolled at Tabacos Cubanica S.A.
What It Tastes Like
Cigar Journal ranked the Hermoso Maduro No. 3 on its Top 25 of 2016, calling it full-bodied, with wood and roast on the nose and plenty of pepper. Halfwheel’s Patrick Lagreid scored it 82: cocoa and dark fruit before lighting, then heavy black pepper and earth, a metallic, chalky middle with a hint of grape jam, and pepper with dry earth returning at the end.
Who It’s For
- Smokers after a full maduro in a short format, at just 4 inches with a 56 ring.
- Pepper lovers, since both reviews above call out pepper.
- 1964 Anniversary regulars curious how the shortest size stacks up against the natural Hermoso.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- No. 3 on Cigar Journal’s Top 25 of 2016
- Nicaraguan puro built from leaf Padrón ages four years
- A compact size for a shorter break
Cons
- Halfwheel scored it 82 and found the 56 ring too thick for comfort despite the slight press
- Strength listings disagree: JR Cigar says medium, Neptune says full
About the 1964 Anniversary Series
The series dates to 1994, yet the Hermoso only arrived in 2016; halfwheel and Cigar Coop report that short, thick pre-release cigars reached some U.S. shops before Padrón’s official announcement that April.
