The Padrón 1964 Anniversary Series Monarca Maduro measures 6 1/2 x 46, comes pressed square, and wraps Nicaraguan binder and filler in a Nicaraguan maduro leaf. Its sibling, the Monarca Natural, uses the same frame under a lighter sun-grown wrapper.
What It Tastes Like
Cigar Aficionado’s Cigar Insider newsletter gave this maduro Monarca 90 points on September 11, 2012, with a medium-full strength call. Coffee led each puff, backed by toast and a finish the tasters likened to toffee. Bryan Glynn’s March 2016 review on Cigar Obsession followed a similar arc: dry cocoa and pepper to open, sweet cream and coffee midway, then coffee, earth and nuts in the last third.

About the 1964 Anniversary Series
Thirty years after opening its doors, Padrón rolled out this series in 1994 and named it for its founding year. Padrón says every leaf in the series rests four years, and each cigar’s band is individually numbered so fakes are easier to catch.
