What It Tastes Like

Cigar Aficionado’s December 2022 tasting scored the Short Story Maduro 91 points, medium strength. Its reviewers found a toothy, dark wrapper, red and black pepper early, then raisin and marshmallow sweetness past the midpoint and an earthy close. The February 2016 review (91) noted dark chocolate, citrus zest, a salty edge and a bready finish; February 2012 (90) found earth, minerals and coffee. halfwheel scored it 88 in 2011 and again in a later redux, citing espresso, cocoa powder and leather.

Who It’s For

  • Broadleaf fans on a schedule: halfwheel finished it in about 45 minutes.
  • Natural Short Story smokers curious how the same perfecto tastes under maduro.
  • Fans of a peppery start that sweetens later.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Snug draw until the bulb, normal for a figurado per halfwheel
  • halfwheel noted the Hemingway blend is not a complex one
