Description
The Viaje White Label Project Dark Matter is a 6 x 56 toro gordo wrapped in Mexican San Andrés maduro leaf. Viaje announced it as a WLP pair with Blunderbuss, and by late August 2024 Cigar Coop reported both on store shelves. The launch coverage did not name its binder, filler or factory.
What It Tastes Like
None of Cigar Aficionado, halfwheel or Cigar Coop has reviewed Dark Matter that we can find, and the launch reports quoted no flavor notes from Viaje, so we list none. Its rest is documented: halfwheel saw a May 2023 date on the box labels, and Viaje blamed a crowded launch calendar for the long wait. Store listings rate it medium-full (Hiland’s Cigars) to full (Robustos).
Who It’s For
- Dark-wrapper smokers who want Mexican maduro leaf on a thick 56-ring toro.
- Side-by-side tasters curious how it stacks up against its Corojo-wrapped sibling, Blunderbuss.
- Adventurous Viaje buyers willing to judge an unscored blend.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Aged more than a year between rolling and release, according to Viaje
- Same dimensions as Blunderbuss, so the wrapper is the only disclosed difference in their blends
Cons
- No scored review or official tasting notes to go by
- Undisclosed blend, with store listings split on its country of origin
About the WLP Series
Viaje started the White Label Project in January 2011, and Andre Farkas pitched it as a home for trial blends, odd shapes and factory mistakes. Cigar Coop says WLP cigars normally come bundled under simple black-and-white bands; Dark Matter instead shipped in boxes of 25, per Cigar Coop’s launch report.

It arrived in August 2024; Cigar Coop’s August 27 report said it was already on shelves. halfwheel noted box labels dated May 2023, more than a year earlier.
Is Dark Matter box-pressed?
Sources differ. Oxford Cigar Company calls it box-pressed, while the halfwheel and Cigar Coop launch reports describe a 6 x 56 toro with no mention of pressing.
