Description

The Rocky Patel Disciple Sixty is the 6 x 60 gordo of the Disciple line, with a Mexican San Andrés wrapper around a Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan filler, rolled in Estelí, Nicaragua. At a 60 ring gauge it is the thickest size Rocky Patel lists for Disciple.

What It Tastes Like

Cigar Insider, the newsletter from Cigar Aficionado, gave the Disciple Sixty 88 points on April 5, 2022 and called its strength medium. The reviewers noted an eye-catching wrapper on a hefty cigar, and a smoke led by earth and cedar wood with touches of mineral, citrus and flowers. They found the finish a little soap-like but reported an even burn and draw. Rocky Patel cites wood, earth and light pepper.

Who It’s For

  • Big-ring fans who like a wide 60-gauge cigar with plenty of smoke.
  • San Andrés wrapper fans curious how that dark Mexican leaf reads over Nicaraguan tobacco.
  • Rocky Patel regulars who want a round Disciple instead of a box-pressed Sixty.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • 88 points from Cigar Insider (April 2022)
  • Even burn and draw noted in that review
  • Nicaraguan filler grown on Rocky Patel’s farms in Condega and Estelí, per Cigar Coop

Cons

  • A 60 ring gauge may feel bulky if you usually smoke coronas
  • Cigar Insider noted a hint of soap on the finish

About the Disciple Line

Rocky Patel introduced Disciple at the PCA trade show in July 2021, and Cigar Aficionado’s report from that show tied its extra power to the dark Mexican San Andrés leaf and the Nicaraguan tobacco under it. Halfwheel reported in 2021 that it had begun shipping and noted that Disciple draws on the same core tobacco types as the Sixty by Rocky Patel line released alongside it.

Pairing and Storage

Since Cigar Insider rated this size medium, the medium-bodied picks in our pairing guide fit it well: bourbon, a Rioja-style red or a strong coffee.

Rocky Patel Disciple Sixty FAQ

How strong is the Rocky Patel Disciple Sixty?

Rocky Patel rates the Disciple line medium-full. Cigar Insider’s April 2022 review of this 6 x 60 called it medium, so sources place it between medium and medium-full.

Is the Disciple Sixty box-pressed?

No. Halfwheel reported in 2021 that Disciple cigars are round, unlike the box-pressed Sixty by Rocky Patel line.

Where is the Disciple Sixty made?

In Nicaragua. Halfwheel and Cigar Coop both report that Disciple is rolled at Rocky Patel’s Tavicusa factory in Estelí.

Is Rocky Patel Disciple the same cigar as Sixty by Rocky Patel?

No. Both launched in 2021 with a Mexican San Andrés wrapper over Nicaraguan tobacco, but Sixty is a separate box-pressed line named for Rocky Patel’s 60th birthday.
