Gurkha brand that you know today formally began in 1989, its roots trace back to 1887, when at the height of the British rule, colonial soldiers were making their own cigars from local tobacco and calling them ‘Gurkhas’ as an homage to the legendary Nepalese fighters they held so much respect for. Kaizad Hansotia encountered a Portuguese man rolling and selling cigars under the attention-grabbing name and was so intrigued that he decided to purchase his inventory and use the cigars as gifts for customers of his family’s timepiece business.
