Description
Arturo Fuente Magnum R Fifty Four
First created in December 2009, the Arturo Fuente Magnum R line was born from a deep well of aged tobacco already sitting in the Fuente family’s inventory — a happy discovery that turned into one of the brand’s most acclaimed modern releases.
Construction & Origin
The Magnum R’s defining feature is its exclusive Rosado Sungrown wrapper, made from Ecuadorian Sumatra tobacco left over from Fuente’s earlier Sun Grown line. Rather than use standard top-priming leaves, this wrapper is culled specifically from the lower primings of the plant and aged for nearly a decade — a deliberate choice that trades some raw power and spice for real smoothness and complexity. This Vitola 54 (named for its ring gauge) measures 6½” x 54, a Toro shape wrapped over Dominican binder and filler, handmade in the Dominican Republic under master blender Carlos “Carlito” Fuente Jr. It’s part of a small family of Magnum R sizes (52, 54, 56, 58), each simply named for its ring gauge.
Flavor Profile
Medium to full-bodied, with a smooth, reddish-brown wrapper delivering real balance rather than raw intensity — expect cinnamon, dried fruit, and nuts up front, rounding into cedar, sweet wood, and earth, with maple and a touch of leather carrying through to a distinctly sweet finish. It’s built specifically for smokers who want depth and complexity without an overpowering, spicy punch.
Why It’s Sought After
The Arturo Fuente Rosado Sungrown Magnum R 54 earned a spot on Cigar Aficionado’s Top 25 Cigars of 2011, landing at #11 with a 92-point rating — a real, verifiable accolade rather than just marketing language. Combined with the genuinely rare, nearly decade-aged wrapper leaf behind it, this is a cigar that’s earned its reputation as a modern Fuente classic.
