The Alfonso Anejo No. 4 carries real pedigree behind its name — created by Nelson Alfonso, the Cuban graphic designer credited with developing the legendary Cohiba Behike brand before founding Selected Tobacco.
Construction & Origin
Unveiled at the 2022 PCA Trade Show, Alfonso joined Selected Tobacco’s existing luxury lineup alongside Atabey, Byron, and Bandolero. This 6¾ x 56 toro grande pairs an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper and binder with Nicaraguan ligero and Peruvian filler tobaccos, hand-rolled at Tabacos de Costa Rica. True to Selected Tobacco’s signature process, every cigar rests in cedar-lined rooms before finishing its aging in French oak chambers — a full five years from roll to release, a technique Alfonso says he borrowed directly from winemaking traditions.
Flavor Profile
Medium to full-bodied, this cigar delivers aromatic cedar, lemongrass, and peanut butter, balanced by white pepper and a creme brûlée-like sweetness on the retrohale. Halfwheel called it “extremely rich, well-balanced and complex,” while noting its price — roughly $1,124.75 per box of 25 — reflects the real aging investment behind it.
