Description
The Zino Nicaragua Half Corona is a 4 x 44 petit corona from Davidoff, built on an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, a Nicaraguan Semilla 56 binder and filler from the Dominican Republic, Honduras and Nicaragua. halfwheel dates its release to August 3, 2023 and names Diadema Cigars de Honduras S.A. as the maker.
What It Tastes Like
In halfwheel’s tasting of the Half Corona, the cigar opened on baking spice and caramel before espresso and dry straw took charge, with cedar, nutmeg and cocoa nibs behind them and black pepper through the nose. The middle added a salty, mineral edge and coffee bean, and the last third turned toward salted popcorn and hay. Davidoff’s card adds cream, salted nuts and milk coffee.
Who It’s For
- Smokers who skip the cutter, since Davidoff lists the tin version as pre-cut and ready to light.
- Shade-wrapper smokers after espresso and spice instead of a mild profile.
- Zino newcomers who want a compact first taste of the brand.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Sharp burn, heavy smoke and an easy draw early on, per halfwheel
- Four-country leaf in four inches
- Offered pre-cut in tins or uncut in wooden boxes, per Davidoff
Cons
- All three halfwheel samples turned hot and harsh with roughly three-quarters of an inch left
- Tin cigars arrive with a punch already made, which removes the choice of cut
- halfwheel questions the Nicaragua name, since that country supplies only the binder and some filler
