Description
The Rocky Patel The Edge Sumatra Torpedo is a 6 x 52 torpedo rolled in Honduras under an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper. It is one of the two sizes Rocky Patel lists for The Edge Sumatra.
What It Tastes Like
Cigar Aficionado gave the Torpedo 92 points in April 2024 and rated it medium in strength. The review describes cedar up front, giving way to sweet notes of chocolate and vanilla lifted by a citrus-peel tang, then a peppery, nutty close. The magazine rated the same vitola again in August 2025, scoring it 90 points and calling it medium-full.
Who It’s For
- Torpedo fans who like adjusting the draw by how much of the pointed head they clip.
- Smokers curious about Sumatra leaf who want it on a Honduran-made smoke.
- Edge smokers who know the Maduro or Corojo versions and want to try the Sumatra leaf.

- Published binder and filler details vary by source
About The Edge Sumatra
Rocky Patel offers The Edge Sumatra in just two vitolas, this Torpedo and a Toro, and says both come out of the El Paraiso factory in DanlÃ, Honduras. Cigar Aficionado’s 2008 review of the Toro identified El Paraiso as a factory owned by the Plasencia family.
Pairing and Storage
With strength rated anywhere from medium to full, try bourbon or espresso first or an aged rum if it smokes heavier (see our cigar pairing guide). Keep it humidified so the wrapper does not dry out and crack; see our humidor basics guide.
