Description
The Rocky Patel DBS Robusto is a 5 1/2 x 50 robusto and the shortest of the three DBS sizes, dressed in Mexican San Andrés leaf. Under that leaf, Rocky Patel lists a Nicaraguan binder teamed with U.S. Pennsylvania broadleaf, plus a filler of Honduran and Nicaraguan tobacco.
What It Tastes Like
Cigar Insider, whose ratings appear on Cigar Aficionado’s site, gave the DBS Robusto 87 points in its June 20, 2023 issue and classed it as medium-full. The review described a peppery smoke carrying licorice and wood with a faint coconut touch. Tasters reported an even burn and draw, though the finish struck them as somewhat green and unpolished.
Who It’s For
- Smokers on a tighter schedule who want DBS without the Toro’s or Sixty’s commitment.
- Pepper lovers drawn to the licorice-and-wood profile Cigar Insider recorded.
- Anyone who likes dark Mexican leaf and wants to taste what broadleaf contributes beneath it.

About the DBS Line
halfwheel’s 2022 Premium Cigar Association show coverage lists DBS as regular production. Rocky Patel’s own page notes that the initials have nothing to do with the Aston Martin model of the same name.

Rocky Patel DBS Robusto FAQ
How strong is the Rocky Patel DBS Robusto?
Our medium-full listing follows Cigar Insider’s June 2023 verdict on this exact size. halfwheel’s reviewer of the larger DBS Toro found that size gentler, building to medium only near the end.
What does DBS mean on a Rocky Patel cigar?
Rocky Patel says the letters are short for Double Broadleaf Selection, pointing to two kinds of broadleaf inside the blend rather than on the outside. Sources split on the filler leaf: halfwheel calls the Nicaraguan filler tobacco broadleaf, Cigar Coop names a Honduran broadleaf, and Rocky Patel’s own spec list does not say which one it is.
How long does the DBS Robusto measure?
Rocky Patel lists it at 5 1/2 inches with a 50 ring gauge, making it the most compact of the three DBS shapes.
Which factory rolls the DBS Robusto?
halfwheel places DBS production at Tabacalera Villa Cuba S.A. (TAVICUSA) in Estelí, and Cigar Coop also credits TAVICUSA in Nicaragua.
