Description
The Tatuaje Reserva Broadleaf K222 is a 5 7/8 x 52 toro wrapped in Connecticut broadleaf over a Nicaraguan binder and filler, rolled at My Father Cigars S.A. in Nicaragua. It swaps the habano leaf of Tatuaje’s regular K222 for broadleaf.
What It Tastes Like
Cigar Aficionado has not, as far as we can tell, scored this broadleaf edition. In halfwheel’s review of the broadleaf K222 (released February 14, 2017), the first third showed leather, spice and plenty of black pepper, with earth and faint coffee underneath. After that the three samples split: one stayed bold, while the other two eventually turned harsh, so the reviewer suggested trying one first. No score or strength rating was given.
Who It’s For
- Broadleaf smokers who want the K222 size in a Connecticut broadleaf wrapper.
- Pepper seekers, since black pepper and spice led halfwheel’s notes.
- K222 regulars curious how a wrapper swap changes a toro they already know.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Connecticut broadleaf wrapper on a 5 7/8 x 52 toro
- Dense ash that held past an inch in halfwheel’s samples
- Made at My Father Cigars S.A., halfwheel reports
Cons
- Uneven across halfwheel’s three samples, two of which turned harsh
- Every halfwheel sample needed a burn touch-up
About the K222
Pete Johnson named the K222 for Kona, his late rottweiler, as halfwheel and Cigar Coop both report. The habano-wrapped original debuted on April 23, 2016, at Fujioka’s Wine Times in Honolulu. The broadleaf take arrived on February 14, 2017, as one of ten sizes in Tatuaje’s Reserva Broadleaf Collection.

Tatuaje Reserva Broadleaf K222 FAQ
How strong is the Tatuaje Reserva Broadleaf K222?
Tatuaje’s website marks no strength for its Reserva cigars and halfwheel’s review gives none, though halfwheel’s steadiest sample stayed bold and pepper-led.
What does K222 stand for?
The K is for Kona, Pete Johnson’s late rottweiler, and 222 marks 2:22, the time of day Kona died.
What separates it from the standard K222?
Same 5 7/8 x 52 size. The regular K222 uses Ecuadorian habano and launched in 2016 as a Miami-made cigar; this one uses Connecticut broadleaf and, per halfwheel, is rolled at My Father Cigars S.A. in Nicaragua.
Has the broadleaf K222 been scored?
halfwheel’s review gave it no score, and we found no Cigar Aficionado rating for this broadleaf edition, so we don’t quote one here.
