Description
The Rocky Patel Gold Label Toro is a box-pressed 6 1/2 x 54 rolled at Rocky Patel’s TAVICUSA factory in EstelÃ, Nicaragua. An Ecuadorian Habano wrapper covers two binders, Connecticut broadleaf and Connecticut shade, around Nicaraguan filler from Estelà and Jalapa.
What It Tastes Like
halfwheel scored it 86 in October 2024: toast, earth, burnt coffee and black pepper, steady but static. Cigar Coop gave it 88 in February 2025, noting cocoa and raisin over cedar and a mineral edge, though the final third went tart. In a March 2026 redux, halfwheel gave an aged sample 89 for wood, savory sweetness, honey and graham cracker, crediting the extra rest.
Who It’s For

- Rocky Patel regulars exploring the company’s Nicaraguan-made lines.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- 89 from halfwheel (March 2026) and 88 from Cigar Coop (February 2025)
- Broadleaf and shade binders stacked under one Ecuadorian leaf
Cons

- halfwheel’s first review found the flavor fairly static
About the Gold Label Line
Gold Label made its first appearance at the March 2024 PCA show in Las Vegas as a regular-production Rocky Patel blend. Nish Patel told Cigar Aficionado the blend had been in Rocky’s hands for years, and the company aimed it at everyday smokers.
Pairing and Storage
halfwheel’s best score came from a sample given extra aging time, so rest a few properly as our humidor basics guide describes. For drinks, our what-to-drink guide suggests espresso or bourbon for medium-bodied smokes.

Rocky Patel Gold Label Toro FAQ
Which wrapper is on the Rocky Patel Gold Label Toro: Habano or Sumatra?
Ecuadorian Habano. Cigar Aficionado noted in May 2024 that listings calling it Ecuador Sumatra were in error, even though the spec box on rockypatel.com still shows Sumatra.
How strong is the Gold Label Toro?
Reviewers disagree: halfwheel’s 2024 review put strength at medium-full to full, Cigar Coop (2025) called it medium, and halfwheel’s 2026 redux found it light, edging toward medium. Rocky Patel rates it medium-full.
Is the Gold Label Toro box-pressed?
Yes. halfwheel’s 2024 review described a heavy box press, and its 2026 redux found the press had barely relaxed after extra aging. Cigar Coop’s sample showed a softer, slightly rounded press.
Who makes the Gold Label Toro?
Rocky Patel Premium Cigars, at its TAVICUSA (Tabacalera Villa Cuba) factory in EstelÃ.
