Description

The Crowned Heads Las Calaveras 2023 LC50 is a 5 x 50 robusto that pairs a Connecticut broadleaf wrapper with a Nicaraguan binder and filler. It belongs to the 2023 Las Calaveras blend, which My Father Cigars S.A. rolls in Estelí, Nicaragua.

What It Tastes Like

We found no dated professional review of the LC50 itself. Cigar Coop reviewed the 6 x 52 LC52, a larger size of the same blend, on February 12, 2024: William Cooper scored it 88 (“Buy One”), noting mocha, dried fruit and wood early, then black pepper building as coffee took the lead, at medium strength throughout. At launch, co-founder Jon Huber told halfwheel the blend spans pepper, chocolate and earth.

Who It’s For

  • Broadleaf devotees who want that dark leaf on a blend rolled at My Father Cigars.
  • Robusto smokers, since the LC50 is the shortest 2023 size.
  • Series followers comparing wrappers across years, as 2023 marked only the second broadleaf edition.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Connecticut broadleaf over an all-Nicaraguan core; the series had used a broadleaf wrapper only once before (2016)
  • Its 6 x 52 sibling earned 88 points from Cigar Coop (February 2024)

Cons

  • No published score for the LC50 size that we could verify
  • Cigar Coop liked the LC52 but would not rate it above the best broadleaf-wrapped cigars it has reviewed
