Description
The Cohiba Connecticut Robusto is a 5 1/2 x 50 cigar from Cohiba’s Dominican-made line, produced by General Cigar Company — distinct from Cuban Cohiba, which is a separate, unrelated product sold outside the US. Connecticut is the mildest expression within this Dominican Cohiba lineup.
About Cohiba Connecticut
General Cigar launched the Connecticut line within its Dominican Cohiba portfolio in March 2019. It’s made at General Cigar Dominicana and built around an Ecuadorian-grown, Connecticut-seed shade wrapper — a lighter leaf than the darker wrappers used on Cohiba’s Red Dot and Black lines. The blend also uses a Mexican San Andrés binder and a filler mix of Brazilian Mata Fina, Dominican Olor and Piloto Cubano, and Nicaraguan Jalapa tobacco.
Flavor Profile
Mild to medium in body, per General Cigar’s own positioning, with the brand emphasizing sweetness and spice. Cigar Coop’s independent review of the Robusto vitola scored it 87 points, noting cream and cedar opening into citrus, wood, and black pepper. halfwheel’s review of the larger Toro vitola found body building toward nearly full-bodied through the smoke, with cedar, cream, salt, apple cider, and honey.
What Makes It Different
Within Cohiba’s broader Dominican range, Connecticut sits among the brand’s more approachable offerings alongside Cohiba Blue, positioned opposite the fuller-bodied, more traditional Red Dot and Black lines. The Connecticut wrapper choice itself signals that mildest positioning — a deliberate entry point for smokers who want the Cohiba name without a heavy-bodied smoke.
Who Is This Cigar Best Suited For?
Smokers newer to full-flavor cigars, or anyone who wants a creamy, cedar-and-spice profile rather than a bold, peppery one. At 5 1/2 x 50, the Robusto is a standard, approachable size and a reasonable starting point in the Cohiba Connecticut line.
