Description
The CAO FASA Sombra Toro is a 6 x 50 toro wrapped in shade-grown Ecuadorian leaf, with a Cameroon binder and a filler of Dominican and Nicaraguan tobacco. General Cigar makes it at its General Cigar Dominicana factory, and it is the third blend in CAO’s FASA series, after Sol and Noche.
What It Tastes Like
CAO rates the Sombra’s body as medium and names butter, hay, cream and almond as its headline flavors. Neptune Cigar’s listing points to a creamy mouthfeel, a light sweet edge and hints of spice, hay and nuts, though it puts the body at mild to medium. Speaking to Cigar Aficionado in April 2025, CAO brand manager Cory Beardsley described Sombra as a refined shade-wrapped cigar that stays smooth while still offering layers.
Who It’s For
- Shade-wrapper smokers who want a creamy cigar with a little more depth.
- FASA Sol or Noche fans curious how the shared Cameroon binder plays under a lighter wrapper.
- Anyone who prefers a standard 50 ring over the chunkier 60-gauge Gigante.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Filler of Dominican Piloto Cubano plus Nicaraguan leaf from Jalapa, Estelà and Condega, according to CAO
- Shade-grown Ecuadorian wrapper over a Cameroon binder
- Same blend also comes as a 6 x 60, so you can choose your ring gauge
Cons
- Body ratings vary, from mild-medium (Neptune) to medium (CAO, JR)
- Smokers after a darker, fuller cigar may prefer the broadleaf-wrapped FASA Noche, which CAO rates medium to full
