Cigar Aficionado has reviewed the Royal Salute Sun Grown twice. In August 2018 it scored the cigar 87 points, describing a dark, oily wrapper and an even burn, with a sweet and tangy mix of cloves, tamarind and citrus fruit, though tasters noted a charred aftertaste on the finish. An earlier review, in June 2006, scored it 88 points, praising its creamy character, with flavors of vanilla and wood and a creamy finish.
