Description

The Arturo Fuente Destino al Siglo de Amistad is a 5 x 50 robusto with a sun-grown Dominican wrapper from Habano seed, rolled over Dominican binder. It is the shortest of four sizes in Fuente’s Gran AniverXario Destino al Siglo line, which the company blended to mark its 100th anniversary.

What It Tastes Like

Cigar Aficionado gave the de Amistad 93 points and a medium-full rating, first in its Cigar Insider newsletter in January 2015 and again in the June 2015 magazine. Its panel picked up cocoa, cashew and cinnamon, plus orange peel and a creamy coffee note, and called the smoke elegant and well balanced. In a separate Connoisseur’s Corner tasting of an aged 2013 cigar, it scored 95, opening on almond and orange marmalade before growing drier and more forceful with walnut and a hint of graham cracker.

Who It’s For

  • Fuente collectors who want a piece of the company’s centennial release.
  • Robusto smokers after a special-occasion cigar in a compact size.
  • OpusX fans curious how a Habano-seed leaf grown on the OpusX farm smokes.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • 93 points from Cigar Aficionado in 2015, and 95 in a Connoisseur’s Corner tasting of an aged sample
  • Wrapper grown at Chateau de la Fuente
  • Compact robusto size, the shortest in the Destino al Siglo line

Cons

  • Fuente’s own site does not list the binder or filler; the filler countries here come from Cigar Aficionado’s ratings listing
  • Only four sizes in the line, with nothing longer than 6 3/4 inches

About Destino al Siglo

Cigar Aficionado translates Destino al Siglo as “a century of destiny.” Fuente planned it for 2012, its 100th year, but held it back after a 2011 fire and shipped it in 2013 in book-shaped boxes holding 26 cigars on two trays. Cigar Aficionado lists the filler as a mix of Dominican, Nicaraguan and U.S. tobacco.

Pairing and Storage

Rated medium-full, the de Amistad falls between the middle and strong tiers of our cigar pairing guide; try a bourbon or an aged rum.

Arturo Fuente Destino al Siglo de Amistad FAQ

How strong is the Arturo Fuente Destino al Siglo de Amistad?

Cigar Aficionado rated it medium-full in its 2015 review, which it published in January and again in June. Fuente pitches the blend at fans of full flavor, which is not the same as full strength.

What size is the de Amistad?

Arturo Fuente lists the de Amistad at 5 x 50, a robusto, making it the shortest of the four Destino al Siglo sizes.

Why was Destino al Siglo released in 2013 instead of 2012?

Fuente’s 100th anniversary fell in 2012, but a 2011 fire cost the company a great deal of tobacco. The family held the cigars back, and they shipped in 2013.

Is Destino al Siglo the same tobacco as OpusX?

Not quite. Cigar Aficionado reports that the wrapper comes from Chateau de la Fuente, the farm behind OpusX, but Fuente uses Habano seed for Destino al Siglo and Corojo seed for OpusX.

Fuente made the de Amistad for its centennial; browse the rest of the family’s cigars on our Arturo Fuente brand page, or stop by our Temple Terrace lounge near Tampa to smoke one.
