Description

The Viaje TNT is a 6 1/2 x 56 toro finished with an oversized pigtail cap, styled after a dynamite fuse for Viaje’s Fourth of July releases. halfwheel reports that the 2023 and 2026 batches use a Nicaraguan corojo 99 maduro wrapper, while Viaje keeps the binder, filler and factory to itself.

What It Tastes Like

halfwheel scored the 2021 batch, the first at this size, 88 points. Leather, wet earth and some dark fruit came first, bread, peanuts and cinnamon grew through the middle, and walnut and cream joined a rising cinnamon note at the close. The reviewer liked the balance and rated strength medium-plus to medium-full. halfwheel gave the older 6 1/4 x 54 versions 83 points in 2010 and 2015.

Who It’s For

  • Fourth of July smokers who want a cigar themed for the holiday.
  • Maduro fans curious about a corojo 99 leaf.
  • Smokers with a free evening for a thick 56-ring toro.

Pros and Cons

  • 88 points from halfwheel for the 2021 batch, with praise for its complexity
  • A playful fuse-style cap and explosives-crate packaging

Cons

  • halfwheel’s reviewer had to touch up every sample to boost smoke output
  • Viaje does not say where it is made or what binder and filler it uses

About the Viaje TNT

The TNT first shipped in June 2010, timed for Independence Day and rolled in Honduras; later batches moved between factories. halfwheel lists nine earlier batches before the 2026 shipment, which still comes 75 to a box made to look like an explosives crate.

Pairing

Since it sits around medium-full, try a bourbon or a barrel-aged Old Fashioned from our cigar pairing guide alongside it.

Viaje TNT FAQ

How strong is the Viaje TNT?

halfwheel rated the 2021 batch medium-plus to medium-full and did not rank it among the brand’s stronger cigars. We list it as medium-full.

What wrapper does the Viaje TNT use?

halfwheel reports a Nicaraguan corojo 99 maduro leaf on the 2023 and 2026 batches. Viaje has not named the binder or filler.

Why does the TNT have a long pigtail?

The twisted cap is meant to look like the fuse on a stick of dynamite. halfwheel’s reviewer clipped the pigtail off before lighting the 2021 cigar.

Is this the same cigar as the original 2010 TNT?

Not exactly. The 2010 debut was a 6 1/4 x 54 with a sun grown corojo wrapper; the current 6 1/2 x 56 size arrived in 2021.

Our Viaje cigars page gathers the TNT’s holiday siblings and the rest of the brand’s small-batch lineup.
