Description
The Perdomo 10th Anniversary Sun Grown Robusto is a 5 x 54 Nicaraguan puro with a Cuban-seed sun grown wrapper over binder and filler from EstelÃ, Condega and Jalapa. Its full release name is Perdomo Reserve 10th Anniversary Box-Pressed Sun Grown, a blend added to the line in 2020.
What It Tastes Like
Cigar Aficionado’s Cigar Insider newsletter scored this Robusto 86 points in its September 15, 2020 issue and listed it as medium in strength. The verdict was mixed: a brassy, metal-tinged opening settles into a heavy earthiness with a nutty almond streak, yet the metallic edge lingers throughout and the finish turns tart.
Who It’s For
- Sun grown fans who want this line’s alternative to its Connecticut Champagne and its Maduro.
- Box-press devotees who like a squared-off robusto that rests flat in the ashtray.
- Bourbon drinkers curious how a barrel-rested wrapper changes a Nicaraguan blend.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- All-Nicaraguan blend built on six-year-aged tobacco
- Wrapper spends about 10 extra months in bourbon barrels
Cons
- Cigar Insider’s 86-point review (September 2020) noted a lingering metallic note and a sour finish
- Strength reports vary from medium to medium-full
About the Perdomo 10th Anniversary Line
According to halfwheel, the 10th Anniversary name goes back to 2004, when Perdomo released the Reserve 10th Anniversary Champagne with a bourbon-barrel-aged Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper. In July 2020 the company announced box-pressed Sun Grown and Maduro blends, with the pair replacing Champagne Noir and Champagne Sun-Grown, Cigar Coop reported.
Pairing and Storage
Because the wrapper rests in bourbon barrels, a neat pour of bourbon is a natural one to try. Our cigar pairing guide also suggests espresso or Rioja, and our humidor basics guide covers keeping singles fresh.
