Description
The Perdomo 10th Anniversary Champagne Churchill is a 7 x 54 cigar wrapped in a bourbon barrel-aged Ecuadorian Connecticut leaf, with a binder and filler of Cuban-seed Nicaraguan tobacco. Perdomo sells the line as the Perdomo Reserve 10th Anniversary Champagne, and it is made in Nicaragua.
What It Tastes Like
Perdomo credits the butterscotch-toned wrapper with a sweet streak of cream and honey, says the binder and filler add spice over an oaky base, and describes a close that leans toward cream and cedar. Writing about the line as a whole rather than this size, JR Cigar’s Blending Room (December 2019) picked out toasted almond, cedar, leather, light spice and coffee.
Who It’s For
- Connecticut-wrapper smokers who want a longer format than a robusto.
- Newer smokers after a long, mild-to-medium Nicaraguan smoke.
- Bourbon drinkers curious how barrel-aged wrapper tobacco smokes.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Wrapper aged in bourbon barrels, per Perdomo
- A big 54 ring gauge on a 7-inch frame
Cons
- We found no Cigar Aficionado review of the Churchill itself
- Smokers who want more strength may prefer the box-pressed Sun Grown or Maduro versions, which Perdomo rates medium to full
Where the Champagne Churchill Fits
halfwheel dates the Champagne to 2004 and says it was Perdomo’s debut for an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper aged in bourbon barrels. By 2020 it spanned nine sizes, and Perdomo’s list runs from a 4 x 38 Purito up to this Churchill.
Pairing and Storage
Perdomo pairs this blend with Scotch or bourbon. For something lighter, our cigar pairing guide points to champagne, a light lager or white rum.
