The Padrón 1964 Anniversary Diplomatico Maduro is a 7 x 50 box-pressed Churchill dressed in dark maduro leaf, with Nicaraguan tobacco in the wrapper, binder and filler. On Padrón’s size chart only the 8 1/4-inch “A” runs longer in the 1964 Anniversary Series.
What It Tastes Like
Cigar Aficionado gave this maduro 94 points and a medium strength rating in a review dated January 2014, and ranked it No. 4 on its Top 25 Cigars of 2013. The review singled out the draw and described nut and toast flavors, with a little raisin sweetness at the end. A February 1999 review of the same maduro scored 92, noting cocoa, earth, an unusual floral streak and sweet cedar notes that linger. Padrón’s ratings page does not split Diplomatico scores by wrapper, so we cite only reviews labeled maduro.
