The Insomnia from GTO Cigars is founder Oscar Rodriguez’s tribute to late night thinkers and workers who operate while the rest of the world sleeps. Unlike his other blends it’s rolled in Nicaragua and features an oily Nicaraguan Habano Oscuro wrapper over Indonesian Sumatra binder and a tri-region core of Nicaraguan tobacco. Full bodied but smooth it features intense notes of dark earth, rich spices and dark cocoa.

GTO Insomnia Toro
Every brand has a cigar that’s a little different from the rest of the lineup, and for GTO Cigars, that’s Insomnia. Founder Dr. Oscar Rodriguez built this one as a tribute to the late-night thinkers and workers who are still going strong while everyone else is asleep — and unlike most of his other blends, which lean Dominican, this one’s a Nicaraguan puro through and through.
Insomnia’s wrapped in an oily Nicaraguan Habano Oscuro leaf, sitting over an Indonesian Sumatra binder, with a filler core pulling tobacco from three different Nicaraguan growing regions. That kind of multi-region blending is usually done to layer complexity into the smoke rather than relying on just one flavor note the whole way through, and it shows here.
It’s full-bodied, but genuinely smooth rather than harsh — expect dark earth and rich spice up front, with dark cocoa rounding things out as it settles in. This is a cigar built for someone who wants real intensity but doesn’t want to fight the smoke to get it.
If you’re into GTO’s other blends and haven’t tried Insomnia yet, it’s worth a look specifically because it steps outside the brand’s usual Dominican comfort zone — a genuinely different side of what Dr. Rodriguez can do.
