Description
The CAO Arcana Firewalker is a 6 1/2 x 56 toro rolled in an Ecuadorian Habano Rosado wrapper, with a Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan filler. Its hook is filler leaf from Masatepe that spent two months buried in volcanic soil, per Cigar Coop.
What It Tastes Like
Cigar Aficionado’s Cigar Insider newsletter gave the Firewalker 85 points on April 5, 2022, calling it medium-full. The panel picked up woody sweetness, cashew and nougat early on, with a lingering charred bitterness pulling against them, and noted that both the burn and the draw were uneven.
halfwheel’s review of the Feb. 1, 2022 release was harsher. Its reviewer tasted cedar, peanut shell and milk chocolate early, a mineral and herbal middle, and toast with black pepper late, and found all three samples underfilled.
Who It’s For
- Curious smokers who want to taste what earth-fermented filler brings to a blend.
- Arcana collectors filling in the series between Mortal Coil and Thunder Smoke.
- Patient smokers fine with a thick toro that took halfwheel from 2 hours 40 minutes to over three hours.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Nicaraguan filler cured by chincagre, an old underground aging method
- Cashew and nougat sweetness noted by Cigar Aficionado (2022)
Cons
- halfwheel’s reviewer found parts of the smoke dry and harsh
- Both outlets flagged draw or burn trouble
About the CAO Arcana Series
General Cigar built Arcana around traditional, old-fashioned ways of treating leaf; blender Rick Rodriguez said in the company’s announcement that it introduces CAO smokers to uncommon ways of handling tobacco.
Pairing and Storage
halfwheel thought a drink might ease this cigar’s dry stretches; try a sweeter pour such as the aged rum in our cigar pairing guide.

CAO Arcana Firewalker FAQ
How strong is the CAO Arcana Firewalker?
Most sources put it at medium-full. Cigar Aficionado’s April 2022 rating lists medium-full, halfwheel’s tasters had it climbing from medium-plus to medium-full, and JR Cigar also lists it as medium-full.
What is chincagre?
It is an old curing technique from western Nicaragua’s farming communities. For the Firewalker, Masatepe filler spent two months in a pit of volcanic earth, then nine more months fermenting at the factory, according to Cigar Coop and Cigar Aficionado.
Where is the Firewalker made?
Cigar Aficionado and Cigar Coop name American Caribbean Cigars in Nicaragua. The box bottom reads STG EstelÃ, but General Cigar told halfwheel that facility only produced the packaging.
Which Arcana release is the Firewalker?
It was the second. Mortal Coil, built around andullo tobacco, came first in 2021, and halfwheel lists the Firewalker’s release date as Feb. 1, 2022.
