Description
The Perla del Mar Shade Double Toro is J.C. Newman’s 6 x 60 size in the Shade blend, with an Ecuadorian Connecticut shade wrapper covering Nicaraguan binder and filler. The Nicaraguan leaf is grown in Pueblo Nuevo, La Reina, Condega and Jalapa, per the maker, and its shape is softly pressed rather than round, per the maker.
What It Tastes Like
We found no independent review of the Shade in this 6 x 60 size. The closest is the Shade Robusto (4 3/4 x 52), which Cigar Aficionado scored 88 points in February 2026 and called mild-medium, noting toast and wood, an obvious peanut flavor and a little nutmeg late. The thicker Double Toro may not smoke exactly the same.
Who It’s For
- Newer smokers who want a mild blend in a hefty ring gauge.
- Connecticut shade fans curious about that leaf on an all-Nicaraguan core.
- Fans of pressed cigars who like a squarish feel in the hand.
