Description
The Montecristo White Especial No. 3 is a 5 1/2 x 44 corona from Montecristo’s White Series, with an Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder and Dominican and Nicaraguan long filler. Both Montecristo and Cigar Aficionado list the Dominican Republic as its country of manufacture.
What It Tastes Like
In its June 2017 issue, Cigar Aficionado gave the Especial No. 3 90 points and a mild-medium strength rating. The reviewer noted a thick, creamy smoke with graham cracker and nutmeg, closing on cinnamon spice, and found it stronger than its pale wrapper hints. Montecristo’s own notes list toasted nuts, coffee bean, vanilla and sweet cream.
Who It’s For
- Corona fans after a slim 44 ring for a shorter break.
- Shade-wrapper loyalists who enjoy a creamy smoke with a cinnamon edge.
- Newer smokers wanting a corona that sources rate between mild and medium.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Cigar Aficionado scored this corona 90 in June 2017
- Montecristo’s White lineup also offers this size in a tube (Court En Tubo)
Cons
- Cigar Aficionado found it fuller than the pale wrapper suggests, so it may not suit those wanting the very mildest smoke
- Fans of bold, peppery cigars may find it too gentle
About the White Series
The founding year is reported two ways: Montecristo’s website says the White Series debuted in 2007, while a March 2025 Cigar Aficionado article dates its introduction to 2003. Montecristo describes the White as a companion to the Original, which the brand names its biggest U.S. seller.
Pairing and Storage
Because sources put it between mild and medium, our cigar pairing guide points to white rum or a light lager (mild picks) or espresso (medium picks).
