Montecristo’s brand timeline places the Classic ahead of the White Series: when the White arrived in 2007, the company presented it as a fuller-flavored option for smokers who already knew and liked the Classic. JR Cigar’s blog dates the Classic’s U.S. debut to the early 1970s; we have not confirmed that date with Altadis.

Is this the same cigar as the Cuban Montecristo No. 2?
No. This one is rolled in the Dominican Republic for Altadis U.S.A. and uses a Connecticut Shade wrapper. The Cuban No. 2 shares its 6 1/8 x 52 size but is a separate cigar with its own Cigar Aficionado ratings.
What shape is the Classic No. 2?
A tapered-head torpedo, which Cigar Aficionado files under figurados. Montecristo’s size chart lists no box-pressed version.
How does it differ from the Classic Special No. 2?
Cigar Coop’s 2016 trade-show report describes the Classic Series Special No. 2 as a 6 x 50 size made only for decorative 25-count jars. It uses the same Classic blend in a different size.
