Description

The Mi Querida Triqui Traca No. 648 is a 6 x 48 grand corona from Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust, dressed in Connecticut broadleaf No. 1 Dark corona leaf over Nicaraguan tobacco, with Dominican ligero fortifying the filler.

What It Tastes Like

Stogie Press scored the No. 648 at 92 on December 26, 2019, and judged it medium to full, noting cocoa, nuts and syrupy sweetness early, earth and pepper through the middle, and cinnamon spice at the close. In halfwheel’s review, Patrick Lagreid found the added ligero building gradually with only modest nicotine, as black pepper up front gave way to slightly bitter dark chocolate late. halfwheel later ranked this size fourth in its Top 25 for 2019.

Who It’s For

  • Broadleaf maduro smokers wanting a darker, ligero-boosted Mi Querida.
  • Fans of a trimmer ring who skip the 52- and 64-ring Triqui Traca sizes.
  • Smokers with about 90 minutes; Stogie Press and halfwheel timed it at 85 to 100 minutes.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Stogie Press rating of 92 (December 2019)
  • Fourth on halfwheel’s 2019 Top 25

Cons

  • Stogie Press needed one touch-up for a wavy burn
  • halfwheel found the final stretch could run hot
  • Dunbarton itself warns the blend will not suit every smoker

About the Mi Querida Triqui Traca

Dunbarton announced the Triqui Traca in June 2019 ahead of that year’s IPCPR show, and halfwheel lists a September 2019 release, with the No. 648 and No. 552 as the opening pair. Its name is Nicaraguan slang for big firecrackers chained along one fuse and set off on holidays.

Mi Querida Triqui Traca No. 648 FAQ

Is the No. 648 a strong cigar?

Dunbarton calls it a much fuller-bodied take on Mi Querida, aimed at smokers who want the heaviest maduros. Stogie Press rated the No. 648 medium to full in December 2019, while halfwheel judged it just a notch stronger than the standard blend.

What size is the No. 648?

Dunbarton lists it at 6 x 48, and halfwheel classes it as a grand corona. The regular Mi Querida blend comes in the same dimensions under the name Fino Largo.

How does the Triqui Traca differ from the regular Mi Querida?

Dunbarton names two changes: a darker No. 1 Dark broadleaf wrapper in place of broadleaf mediums, and a Dominican-grown ligero added to the filler.

Which factory rolls the No. 648?

Dunbarton says NACSA makes it under master cigarmaker Raul Disla; halfwheel gives the factory’s full name, Nicaragua American Cigars S.A.
