The Jaime Garcia Reserva Especial have a core of well-aged Nicaraguan binders and long-fillers from the Garcia family farms in Esteli, Nicaragua. Dark, shiny, and oily Connecticut Broadleaf surrounds the densely packed Nicaragua core, medium to full but smooth and layered with notes of espresso, cocoa, nuts and a bit of the signature Pepin spice.

Jaime Garcia Petit Robusto
Funny enough, this cigar almost didn’t exist as its own line. Back in 2009, Jaime Garcia — son of the legendary Don “Pepin” Garcia — put together a one-off blend for a single event, never really meaning for it to become anything more. But people who tried it wouldn’t stop asking for it, so it went into regular production. More than a decade later, it’s still one of the most respected releases to come out of the family.
Jaime’s grown up working right alongside his father across the family’s farms and their factory floor, so it’s no surprise he knows his way around a blend. This one’s built from long-filler and binder tobacco grown on Garcia family farms in Nicaragua, aged properly before it ever gets rolled. Wrapping it all up is a dark, oily Connecticut Broadleaf leaf with that classic glistening, almost dusky look Broadleaf is known for. It’s hand-rolled at My Father Cigars in Nicaragua, and this Petit Robusto size comes in at 4½” x 50 — a shorter, easier sit than some of the line’s bigger vitolas, packed 20 to a box.
Where a lot of My Father blends lean hard into pepper and spice, this one takes a different path — more chocolate-forward, rounding out with espresso, roasted nuts, and a little earthiness. It’s medium to full-bodied, smooth enough that it doesn’t wear you out, but there’s real depth here if you slow down and pay attention to it.
Given how it started (basically an accident that people refused to let go away), it’s held its place as a genuine staple for anyone who’s into the Garcia family’s work. If you’re already a My Father fan looking for something a little different from the usual peppery profile, this is worth grabbing.
