Description
The Fuente Fuente Opus X Oro Oscuro Perfecxion #4 takes Opus X — the cigar that made history as the first-ever Dominican puro — into darker, richer territory with a specially fermented and extra-aged wrapper.
Construction & Origin
This 5⅛ x 43 corona is an all-Dominican puro, built entirely from tobacco grown at Chateau de la Fuente’s own estate. Oro Oscuro shipped as part of a wave of Fuente limited editions in late 2015, packaged in a distinctive yellow box and finished in a rosado oscuro wrapper different from what’s typically seen on standard Opus X releases — the leaf is specially aged and fermented to deliver a darker, more robust character. Every cigar is hand-rolled at Tabacalera A. Fuente y Cia in the Dominican Republic.
Flavor Profile
Full-bodied and invigorating, this cigar delivers dark chocolate, espresso, cedar, sweetness, vanilla, and spice, with reviewers frequently noting dried fruit and currant-like notes appearing early on. Construction draws consistent praise for its flawless burn and smooth, even draw — several longtime fans specifically note that Oro Oscuro rewards a little extra humidor time, developing even more depth with age.
Why It’s Sought After
Oro Oscuro represents a genuine departure from the standard Opus X wrapper, and production has always run limited — many retailers list it as frequently out of stock or sold exclusively in-store. For collectors already chasing the original Opus X, this darker expression offers a real, distinct alternative within cigardom’s most legendary Dominican puro.
