Description
The Davidoff Grand Cru No. 3 is a 5 1/16 x 43 corona with an Ecuador-grown Connecticut-seed wrapper over Dominican binder and filler. Davidoff places it in its White Band Collection and estimates a 25 to 40 minute smoke.
What It Tastes Like
Davidoff scores the No. 3 at 2 out of 5 for intensity and 2.5 for body, and its flavor wheel names oak, cream, hazelnut, wheat, liquorice, dried fruit and dried flowers. Cigar Aficionado’s confirmed review of this size dates from October 2009: 84 points and a mild rating, praising the oily, tawny wrapper, burn and draw, but finding mineral and earth tones dominant, with some wood.
Who It’s For
- Smokers short on time who still want a full-size Davidoff.
- Fans of slim shapes who find the Grand Cru Robusto and Toro too thick.
- Anyone easing into Davidoff through its gentler white-band blends.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Low intensity: 2/5 per Davidoff, mild per Cigar Aficionado (2009)
- Short enough for a coffee break
Cons
- Its only Cigar Aficionado score we could confirm is 84 points, from 2009
- Likely too gentle for smokers who want power
About the Grand Cru Line
Davidoff traces the idea for the line to Zino Davidoff in 1946 and says its name nods to fine wine. Writing in July 2024, Cigar Aficionado drew the same Bordeaux parallel: three main grapes there, three Dominican tobaccos here, with San Vicente seco as the anchor leaf.
Pairing and Storage
At mild-medium strength, this corona suits the gentler drinks in our cigar pairing guide, such as champagne, a crisp lager or white rum.
