Description
The Avo Syncro Nicaragua Short Robusto is a 4 x 52 box-pressed stub with an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, a Dominican binder and a filler of Dominican, Nicaraguan and Peruvian leaf. halfwheel lists it as the smallest of the four sizes the line launched with.
What It Tastes Like
Cigar Aficionado has rated this size twice, both times medium-full. In February 2016 it scored 90, with cocoa, cedar and roasted coffee. In December 2020 it scored 89 and leaned on wood, mainly cedar and charred oak, with clean tobacco at the close. A blind panel at Blind Man’s Puff (March 16, 2016) gave it 91, noting earth, leather and pepper early, then cedar and light coffee.
Who It’s For
- Smokers on a lunch break: Blind Man’s Puff’s panel averaged about 44 minutes per cigar.
- Fans of pressed shapes who like a squared-off feel.
- AVO fans who want a medium-full, pressed option from the brand.

- One Blind Man’s Puff taster felt nicotine from start to finish
About the Syncro Nicaragua
The Syncro Nicaragua debuted at the 2015 IPCPR trade show. halfwheel describes it as the first new ongoing AVO line since the brand’s rebrand, and later as AVO’s first box-pressed cigar in the standard catalog (the TAA-exclusive AVO Movement of 2013 was pressed earlier). Davidoff says its Nicaraguan leaf comes from Ometepe Island.
Pairing and Storage
At medium-full, it sits between the medium and full tiers of our pairing guide; try bourbon or an aged rum. One panelist suggested resting it first (see our humidor basics guide).
