Description
The CAO Amazon Basin Dagger is a 4 x 38 petit corona that puts the Amazon Basin blend into a short format: Brazilian Bragança, Colombian and Dominican filler, bound in Nicaraguan leaf and finished with a high-priming Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper. It is made at STG Estelí in Nicaragua.
What It Tastes Like
halfwheel reviewed the 2025 release and found wood, a muddy earthiness, leather and black pepper up front, with a sweeter retrohale carrying cedar, nuts, salt and a trace of pineapple. Toast, bread and grapefruit came in mid-cigar, and the final third turned earthier and sharper. Strength sat mostly at medium-full. The reviewer ranked it ahead of every earlier release in the line, mostly because of a fruity sweetness they could not place.
Who It’s For
- Amazon Basin fans who want the Bragança blend without committing to a full toro.
- Lunch-break smokers looking for a thin cigar with real flavor.
- Curious smokers who want to try rainforest-grown Brazilian filler in a small size first.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Same blend as the Amazon Basin toro, per halfwheel and CAO’s brand manager
- halfwheel singled out an unusual fruit sweetness in the profile
Cons
- halfwheel saw smoke output dip in the middle third of every sample, alongside some combustion trouble there
- In halfwheel’s notes the last third grew sharper and saltier with plenty of black pepper, which may not suit milder palates
About the Amazon Basin Line
CAO introduced Amazon Basin in 2014 as a 6 x 52 toro centered on Bragança, a Brazilian leaf grown in a remote part of the rainforest. The 4 x 38 Daggers followed in June 2025, and General Cigar brought them back in June 2026.
Pairing and Storage
CAO suggests Pinot Noir or a single malt Scotch with this blend. Our cigar pairing guide has more options for medium-full cigars.

CAO Amazon Basin Dagger FAQ
Is the CAO Amazon Basin Dagger the same blend as the Amazon Basin toro?
Yes. CAO brand manager Cory Beardsley told Cigar Aficionado in June 2026 that its blend and strength match the toro’s.
How long does the Amazon Basin Dagger take to smoke?
halfwheel’s three samples ran from about 50 to 80 minutes.
How strong is the Amazon Basin Dagger?
CAO rates the blend medium to full, and halfwheel logged mostly medium-full across its samples.
What makes Bragança tobacco different?
Per Cigar Aficionado, the plants are cut only every third year, and the leaves are packed into tight bundles known as carottes, fermented about six months and moved by canoe.
