Description
The Plasencia Reserva Original Robusto is a 4 3/4 x 52 Nicaraguan puro, with its wrapper, binder and filler all grown in Nicaragua. Plasencia sources the leaf from EstelÃ, Condega and Jalapa and calls Reserva Original the first cigar in which every leaf carries OCIA organic certification.
What It Tastes Like
Plasencia’s own profile for the line points to caramel, cocoa, marzipan and nuts, plus a touch of baked bread, ending on cedar. JR Cigars’ December 2017 overview adds leather and earth, and a lingering finish that mixes sweetness with spice. In another size, Cigar Aficionado gave the Reserva Original Corona (6 1/4 x 44) 92 points (medium strength) in January 2023 and placed it No. 25 on its Top 25 of 2022. We found no Cigar Aficionado score for the Robusto itself.
Who It’s For
- Organic-curious smokers wanting a certified-organic blend in a compact size.
- Nicaraguan puro fans who prefer caramel and nut sweetness over heavy pepper.
- Robusto regulars who want a 52-ring cigar for a shorter break.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Tobacco certified organic by the OCIA, according to Plasencia
- All-Nicaraguan blend drawn from three growing regions Plasencia names
- Its Corona sibling made Cigar Aficionado’s Top 25 of 2022
Cons
- We could not find a Cigar Aficionado score for the Robusto vitola itself
- Most sources place it between mild-medium and medium, so full-strength fans may find it gentle
About the Reserva Original
Before this line, Plasencia made an earlier organic cigar called the Reserva Orgánica, which Cigar Insider reviewed in 2001. JR Cigars notes the Reserva Original was first sold only in Europe, and halfwheel, in its Corona review, says the line was introduced at IPCPR’s 2017 trade show and lists a July 2017 release date.
Pairing
Plasencia suggests a cappuccino alongside it, in line with the coffee options our cigar pairing guide lists for medium-bodied cigars, the body Plasencia gives this blend.
