Description
The Asylum Schizo 70 x 7 is a seven-inch, 70-gauge Nicaraguan puro, so the wrapper, binder and filler all come from Nicaragua. It is the largest size CLE Cigar Co. lists for Schizo, Asylum’s mixed-filler line.
What It Tastes Like
We could not find an independent critic review or score for Schizo in any size. CLE’s own description promises leather, a natural sweetness, cream, light spice and a little cocoa, and calls its body mellow to medium. Neptune Cigar’s listing points to leather, cocoa and spice but rates it stronger, at medium to full. Asylum’s 2012 launch announcement described a mild-to-medium cigar that smokes cool.

- Golf-course and yard-work smokers who want one big cigar to carry them through a long afternoon.

Pros and Cons
Pros
- All-Nicaraguan leaf, per CLE, JR Cigar and Neptune Cigar
- CLE pitches it as a mellow, all-day smoke
Cons
- Mixed filler rather than long filler, which some smokers avoid
- We found no independent review to set expectations
About Schizo
Asylum’s June 2012 launch announcement, published by halfwheel and Cigar Coop, introduced Schizo as the company’s second brand in four sizes from 5 x 50 to 6 x 60; the 70 x 7 joined the list later. Cigar Journal reports that Asylum’s Nicaraguan factory had to build new molds for the brand’s big ring gauges.
Compare Similar Cigars
- Asylum 13 Toro: a 6 x 52 from Asylum’s core blend, which CLE builds with Cuban-seed long filler grown in Nicaragua.
- Asylum 12 7×70: matches this cigar’s 7 x 70 frame; halfwheel covered it as Asylum’s 12th-anniversary release, packed in tubes.
- Asylum 13 Split Personality 70×7: also 7 x 70, but halfwheel lists it as an all-Honduran blend infused with banana, caramel and almond flavors.
Asylum Schizo 70 x 7 FAQ
What size is the Asylum Schizo 70 x 7?
Seven inches long with a 70 ring gauge. CLE writes the ring gauge first, which is why the name reads 70 x 7.
How strong is the Asylum Schizo 70 x 7?
Sources differ. CLE describes Schizo’s body as mellow to medium and JR Cigar lists it as mellow-medium, while Neptune Cigar describes it as medium to full. Our store rates this one medium.
Is Schizo a long filler cigar?
No. Asylum’s 2012 launch announcement called Schizo a short filler cigar, and Cigar Journal describes the line as mixed filler.
What is the difference between Schizo and Schizo Maduro?
Per halfwheel, Schizo Maduro is rolled in Honduras from Honduran filler under a Mexican San Andrés leaf; the original Schizo sold here is a Nicaraguan puro.
