The Liga Privada Ratzilla is the elder sibling of the widely loved Dirty Rat, a perfecto-shaped Unico Serie release that first appeared in 2012 and has remained an intermittent, hard-to-find cigar ever since. At 6 1/4 x 46, it stretches the Dirty Rat’s blend into a longer, more commanding smoke.

Construction & Origin

The Ratzilla shares nearly the same blend as the Dirty Rat, built around a Connecticut Stalk Cut Habano wrapper, a Brazilian Mata Fina binder, and a filler of Nicaraguan and Honduran tobaccos, subtly adjusted to suit its larger perfecto shape. Every cigar is hand-rolled at La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate in Esteli, Nicaragua, as part of the Unico Serie, Drew Estate’s line of small-batch, experimental Liga Privada releases. Since its 2012 debut, the Ratzilla has come and gone from Drew Estate’s release schedule, making each run a limited opportunity for fans of the blend.

Flavor Profile

Full-bodied and rich, the Ratzilla opens with black pepper and leather before settling into a core of dark cocoa, espresso, and warm earthy spice. The Connecticut Stalk Cut Habano wrapper lends a subtle sweetness that balances the filler’s intensity, while the tapered perfecto shape concentrates the smoke and brings out notes of dried fruit and cedar as it burns toward the final third.

As a larger, less frequently released version of the cult-favorite Dirty Rat, the Ratzilla has built its own following among collectors who chase down every Unico Serie variation.
