Description

The La Aroma de Cuba Immensa is a 5 3/4 x 60 cigar from Ashton’s original La Aroma de Cuba blend, built from a Connecticut broadleaf wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler. Its 60 ring gauge is the heaviest in the original blend’s size list on the La Aroma de Cuba website.

What It Tastes Like

Cigar Aficionado gave the Immensa 87 points in its December 1, 2021 issue and placed it at medium strength. The panel noted a head that felt a little soft, yet the cigar drew and burned evenly, and the flavor ran toward toasted wood with a creamy mouthfeel, a faint raisin sweetness and a raw-timber finish. Ashton’s own description of the blend lists coffee bean, cocoa, cedar, molasses and spice.

Who It’s For

  • Broadleaf fans who want that wrapper on a thick, mid-length format.
  • Smokers who like big ring gauges without a seven-inch commitment.
  • La Aroma de Cuba regulars comparing the broadleaf original with its Connecticut sibling.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Drew and burned evenly in Cigar Aficionado’s 2021 tasting
  • Listed as medium strength by both the maker and Cigar Aficionado

Cons

  • Cigar Aficionado found the head slightly spongy
  • A 60 ring can feel bulky if you prefer slimmer cigars

About the La Aroma de Cuba Line

Ashton revived the old Cuban brand name in 2002 with a Honduran cigar from Altadis U.S.A.’s La Flor de Copan factory, according to Cigar Aficionado. In 2009 Ashton shifted the original blend to Pepín García and reworked it, and the line is now rolled in Nicaragua.
