Description

The Knuckle Sandwich Maduro Toro is a 6 x 54 box-pressed toro, called the Toro H in Espinosa’s lineup, with a dark Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper around a Nicaraguan binder and filler. It was the largest of the blend’s three launch sizes, before Espinosa added a 6 x 60 Gordo in 2023.

What It Tastes Like

Cigar Coop smoked this size for a March 2023 review, gave it 90 points and a “Buy One” verdict, and rated both strength and body medium-full. Mocha took the lead from the first puffs, backed by red licorice, earth, minerals and red pepper, with black pepper showing on the retrohale. By the last third the mocha had stepped back and earth and pepper were in charge. The outlet later ranked it No. 18 on its 2023 Cigar of the Year countdown.

Who It’s For

  • Maduro fans wanting the darker Knuckle Sandwich blend in a longer size.
  • Robusto smokers who want more time: this toro adds an inch and two ring sizes over the 5 x 52 Maduro Robusto.
  • Box-press lovers who like a squared-off cigar in hand.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • 90 points from Cigar Coop (March 2023), plus a No. 18 spot on its 2023 countdown
  • Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper over all-Nicaraguan binder and filler
  • Cigar Coop’s review cigar burned evenly with few touch-ups

Cons

  • The draw struck Cigar Coop’s reviewer as looser than he likes
  • Possibly too bold for mild-cigar smokers
