Description

The Gurkha 35th Anniversary Torpedo is a 6 1/8 x 52 torpedo wrapped in Ecuadorian habano leaf, with an Indonesian binder and Nicaraguan filler, rolled at Tabacalera El Artista in the Dominican Republic. It is the pointed-head size in a three-size line Gurkha created for the brand’s 35th anniversary.

What It Tastes Like

Gurkha rates the blend medium and describes it as earthy and nutty, with a cool finish that lingers. Halfwheel’s review of this torpedo, which gave no numeric score, also called it medium in strength and body. Their reviewer found earth and leather early, with a woody, walnut-like finish, roasted chestnut and toast mid-way, and an earthier, more mineral last third. The reviewer singled out its smoothness; pepper barely showed before the final third.

Who It’s For

  • Torpedo fans who like a tapered head that focuses the draw.
  • Smokers who want little pepper and a mellow, nut-forward profile.
  • Gurkha collectors marking the brand’s anniversary releases.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Medium strength, per both Gurkha and halfwheel
  • Indonesian binder paired with Estelí criollo 98 filler
  • Made at El Artista, a Dominican factory

Cons

  • Halfwheel’s reviewer needed touch-ups for uneven burning
  • That review found the flavors rarely stood out

About the 35th Anniversary

According to halfwheel, the line marks 35 years since Kaizad Hansotia acquired the Gurkha name in 1989. Gurkha first showed it at the 2023 PCA trade show in a red piano-finish humidor holding 25 of each size, and halfwheel reports the humidor reached shelves in late October 2023.

Pairing and Storage

As a medium cigar with roasted-nut flavors, it fits the bourbon, balanced red or espresso suggestions in our cigar pairing guide.
