The Wise Man Maduro Macho Raton is a 4 3/4 x 60 perfecto from Foundation Cigar Company, built on Nicaraguan binder and filler under a dark leaf grown in Mexico’s San Andrés valley. Foundation announced the shape in June 2022 ahead of that summer’s PCA trade show, and Aganorsa Leaf rolls it in Estelí.
What It Tastes Like
Cigar Aficionado gave the Macho Raton 91 points in its October 1, 2023 issue and called it full in strength. Tasters saw paler leaf at the foot, then a sweetness like hickory-smoked meat, black and red pepper heat, and a black coffee close in a lively smoke.

Halfwheel describes the Wise Man Maduro as the darker follow-up to El Güegüense, Nick Melillo’s debut line at Foundation. The Macho Raton is named for the central figure of El Güegüense, a Nicaraguan satirical play. For this size, Cigar Aficionado and halfwheel list a Jalapa-grown Corojo ’99 binder and Cigar Coop a Nicaraguan Corojo one, while Foundation’s line page gives Estelí and Jalapa.
