Description
The Tarazona Caraballo828 Claro FFOD is a 6 x 54 cigar pairing a Connecticut wrapper and Ecuadorian Sumatra binder with Nicaraguan leaf grown in Condega, Estelà and Jalapa. It is the longest and thickest of the three Claro vitolas Tarazona announced in 2019.
What It Tastes Like
As of October 2026 we found no professional review or score for the Claro FFOD from Cigar Aficionado, halfwheel, Cigar Coop or Stogie Press, so we quote no rating or flavor notes. The specs say what to expect: a Connecticut wrapper over all-Nicaraguan filler. Strength is shown as medium in our listing, unconfirmed by any reviewer.
Who It’s For
- Connecticut-wrapper smokers who want that lighter leaf in a full 6 x 54 format.
- Shekel fans ready to try the same Claro blend in its biggest size.
- Big-ring smokers who prefer a 54 gauge to a slimmer robusto.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Largest ring gauge across the Claro and Oscuro sizes listed by halfwheel
- Shares its interior blend with the Claro Shekel, which makes a clean size-versus-size test
Cons
- No published professional rating or tasting notes we could confirm
- Published reports disagree on the country of production
About the Caraballo828 Claro
Halfwheel’s 2019 IPCPR trade show report listed the Claro in three sizes, Greenbacks, Shekel and FFOD, next to a darker Oscuro version that changes only the wrapper. Mario Caraballo, then Eddie Tarazona’s business partner, lent the brand its name; on August 26, 2022, Cigar Coop reported that his new Miami firm, Casa Caraballo, would distribute the 828 Claro, Oscuro and Silverback.

- Tarazona Caraballo828 Oscuro Shekel: a 5 x 52 that trades the Connecticut leaf for Nicaraguan Habano over an unchanged interior.
- Tarazona Silverback The Benjamins: a 6 x 52 that matches the FFOD’s 6-inch length but uses a Mexican San Andrés wrapper; halfwheel lists Nicaragua as its country of origin.
