Description
The Sencillo Black Gigante pairs a 6 x 60 frame with a Nicaraguan Habano Colorado wrapper, a Habano Jalapa binder and filler drawn from Nicaragua, Honduras and Mexico. Sencillo, a Prometheus brand, sells it as part of its Nicaraguan Black series.
What It Tastes Like
Sencillo describes the Gigante as the biggest and gentlest Black size: smooth yet full, lightly savory and a bit sweet through to the end. We found no independent review of this vitola. In an undated review of the 5 1/4 x 50 Black Robusto, halfwheel’s Steve Valle found it medium in body and strength, with dark chocolate, coffee, cedar, leather and pepper, plus black licorice late.
Who It’s For
- Big ring gauge smokers after a 60 ring Nicaraguan cigar.
- Fans of three-country blends mixing Nicaraguan, Honduran and Mexican leaf.
- Smokers who find the Black Robusto too bold; Sencillo pitches the Gigante as softer.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Rolled at Plasencia Cigars S.A., per halfwheel
- Filler pairs two Cuban-seed ligeros with Mexican San Andrés viso
- Sencillo calls it the mildest Black size
Cons
- We found no outside review of the Gigante itself
- Strength calls vary, from Sencillo’s “mildest” to Smoke Inn’s medium-full for the whole line
About the Sencillo Black
halfwheel lists a June 2011 release date for the Black, a Nicaraguan follow-up to Sencillo’s Honduran Platinum, made with Nestor Plasencia Jr.
Pairing and Storage
Since Sencillo bills this 60 ring as its gentlest Black, an espresso or a balanced bourbon fits the medium range in our cigar and drink pairing guide, and the humidor basics guide explains how to keep it at steady humidity.

Sources differ. Sencillo calls the Gigante the mildest size in the Black line, the retailer Smoke Inn rates the Black line as a whole medium-full, and we file it under medium.
