The Oliva Serie V Melanio Double Toro is a 6 x 60 box-pressed cigar with an Ecuadorian Sumatra-seed wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder and ligero filler that Oliva sources from Nicaragua’s Jalapa region. It is the thickest size in Oliva’s Serie V Melanio range.
What It Tastes Like
halfwheel smoked two prerelease samples ahead of the February 2014 U.S. launch and scored the size 86. Bittersweet spice, leather, black pepper, damp earth and orange peel opened it; wood grew stronger midway, and damp earth ruled the last third. Neptune’s listing points instead to coffee and nuts with a floral aroma.

About the Melanio Double Toro
Cigar Aficionado says Oliva added Melanio to Serie V in 2012 to honor Melanio Oliva, who started the family’s tobacco farming in 19th-century Cuba. According to halfwheel, this 6 x 60 first appeared in Europe in November 2013, with ongoing production for American and European shops planned from February 2014.
