Description
The Ashton Classic Sovereign is a 6 3/4 x 55 torpedo that wraps a golden Connecticut Shade leaf around Dominican binder and filler. It is one of the tapered shapes in the Ashton Classic, the Connecticut-wrapped blend Ashton counts as its original.
What It Tastes Like
Ashton rates the Classic blend mild and lists cream, coffee bean, almond, cashew and cedar as its main notes. The company says the Dominican binder and filler spend 3-4 years aging. We could not confirm a published Cigar Aficionado score for the Sovereign size itself, so we don’t quote one here.
Who It’s For
- Mild-cigar smokers who still want a thick, long format.
- Torpedo fans who like a pointed head they can cut shallow or deep.
- Ashton Classic regulars looking for a shape other than the straight Churchill.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Mild Connecticut Shade profile, per Ashton and Famous Smoke Shop
- Rolled at the Tabacalera A. Fuente factory, according to Ashton
- Tapered head gives you control over the draw through how much you cut
Cons
- Too gentle for anyone who wants pepper or heavy body
- No vitola-specific critic score we could verify
About Ashton Classic
Robert Levin, who grew up in his father’s Philadelphia tobacco shop, Holt’s Cigar Company, created Ashton and introduced it in 1985. Ashton describes the Connecticut-wrapped Classic as its original blend.
Pairing and Storage
A mild torpedo like this sits well next to champagne, a crisp light lager or a white rum, the gentler picks in our cigar pairing guide. Like any premium cigar, the Sovereign can dry out and crack without steady humidity, so see our humidor basics guide before storing a few.

Ashton Classic Sovereign FAQ
What size is the Ashton Classic Sovereign?
Ashton lists the Sovereign at 6 3/4 x 55. JR Cigar and Famous Smoke Shop both describe it as a torpedo, so it narrows to a pointed head.
How strong is the Sovereign?
Mild. Ashton rates its Classic blend mild, and Famous Smoke Shop gives the Sovereign the same rating.
Who makes Ashton Classic cigars?
Ashton says its cigars are rolled by hand at the Dominican Tabacalera A. Fuente factory, through a partnership Robert Levin formed with the Fuentes soon after the brand’s 1985 debut.
How does the Sovereign differ from the Ashton Classic Churchill?
Same blend, different format. The Churchill is a straight 7 1/2 x 52, while the Sovereign is shorter, a bit thicker at 55 and tapered to a point.
